The Ground Floor Renovation
This 1970’s home for family of four, split over two levels with bedrooms on second level and living spaces on ground. The existing layout had poor connection to the kitchen and living area, hindered by multiple walls. The family required an open plan living with modern amenities by renovating the entire ground floor, so that family living, dining and kitchen have better connection. The family rarely entertains in formal setting and prefers family orientated occasions. Their wish list contained open plan kitchen, dining, living, WC, separate laundry concealed behind door and study/office space. They also had some optional extras like full bathroom, guest bedroom, additional living/games room, utility/mud room at the entryway.
The challenge was to work within the parameters of the existing external walls and provide a new floor plan according to the family needs. Our role was to incorporate as many spaces on the ground floor provided on their wish list. The family design style brief was classic with modern twist. We’ve chosen Analogous colour scheme for this space which is a mix of whites and blue/green. Wallpaper in similar colour background is chosen to accentuate the feature wall in the living/dining room while keeping the similar colour scheme throughout the space for flow. The furniture and accessories are chosen in the blue/green hues to add depth and interest. Although the paint colour choices, finishes and the accessories are classic, the arched steel frame glass doors and windows in matt black throughout the space makes the space look modern. We’ve chosen timber floors throughout the space for consistency and flow. To keep the classic look, we’ve chosen dark floorboards in matt to compliment the lighter colours on the walls and also to compliment the black steel frame doors and windows. The kitchen cabinets are kept Natural White with integrated appliances. The bathroom tiles in similar colour scheme is chosen for the wall with arched profile to compliment the curves in the doors and windows. The floor tiles are lighter to keep focus on the feature wall tiles. The Analogous colour scheme focuses on classic French feel, luxury, drama and high-end finishes. The space is inviting, comfortable, cosy and luxurious.
